A THURSDAY AFTERNOON
"INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS"
CLASS
Approximately nine times a week, a class is
in progress at our classroom in the American Red Cross building. Many different
courses are offered, but the most popular is our "Introduction to Computers"
course--an 8-week examination of what computers are, what they can do, and how
much fun they can be for members of our Senior community
George McGovern is instructor of the
Thursday
afternoon class. In this picture, he's
explaining
the process of "Cutting," "Copying," and
"Pasting."
As he explains it, the students try
it. Their
success leads to a new understanding and the
chance to move on to another
topic.
Here are Judy Batchelder (foreground), Rose
Hunter,
Paul Dingwell, and Pat Boyce, cutting and
pasting
while Coach Eleanor
McGovern watches and helps.
Teri Bowerman is getting along well, as
George
turns the discussion to Folders and
Files.
She's learning how to move files from one
folder to another--an exercise which she
obviously enjoys.
At the other end of the classroom, Coach
Billie
Petersen watches as Rudolph Phillips and
Mae Snelling master the management of files
and folders.
George introduces another topic as Teri
Bowerman, Pat Wilson, and Rudolph
Phillips continue to offer their rapt
attention.
This class is just one of 8 classes in the
"Introduction to Computers" course. These students will go on to study and
learn word processing, data base management and spread sheets. And then,
near the end of their studies, they'll get on the Internet--and visit the world
through the World Wide Web.
They're having fun. And they're
learning a lot!
