Beginning Computers and Email  – This is an 8-week course for beginners or new users who are just starting to get familiar with a computer, mouse, and/or keyboard.  Exercises are included to improve skills in these areas and to create and save short documents.  Students will be introduced to the basics of Email usage; creating an e-mail ID, sending and receiving messages, and uploading and downloading attachments and photos.
  (You do not have to have a computer to take Computers For Beginners.)

New SeniorNet students with advanced computer skills should take the Introduction to Computer Applications course to acquire a good understanding of Raleigh SeniorNet as well as acquiring a good foundation for the other courses taught at SeniorNet.

Introduction to Computer Applications  – This 8-week course is for students who have some knowledge of computers, who are able to control mouse movement and are familiar with the keyboard.  This course introduces the basics of word processing. This course also introduces the basics of file management, databases, spreadsheets and on-line/Internet.

Basics with Barb - This course is for those who have taken the Introduction to Computer Applications in the past or have worked on computers and just want a refresher. 
Length of course is 2-weeks, one afternoon a week.

Fun with Photos - In this class you will become familiar with a Digital Photo Organizer & Editor called Picasa.  Find all your photos -- and make photo folders, quickly and easily.  Edit with ease -- Crop, reduce red-eye, and enhance with one quick click.  Print at home or the store of your choice.  Share photos online -- via email or through a Web Album.  Make slideshows and much more!

Exploring Files and Folders - This 4-week course will offer ways to increase your ability to manage data storage and files on your personal computer using Windows 7.  You will learn to create folders and organize your data so that it will be easy to retrieve.  You will use Windows Explorer to create and manage your file structure.  
Length of course is 4-weeks, one afternoon a week.

Financial Management with Quicken – Quicken is designed to assist individuals in managing their financial resources from daily checking to long term investing.  Topics covered will include tracking of bank accounts, credit card accounts, investments, and budgeting.

On-Line/Internet - You will learn about email, downloading files, attachments, bookmarks/favorites, instant messaging, etc.  Using the Internet, you can find health information, track your stocks, order items on-line, plan vacations, keep in touch with family and friends.  The browser used in class is Internet Explorer and the email program used is Windows Live Mail.  Both of these programs are part of Windows' operating systems – Windows 7.
Length of course is 8-weeks, one afternoon a week.

Word Processing -  You will use Open Office Writer to learn the procedures to create letters, documents, envelopes, labels, letterheads, etc., using various fonts and clip art to enhance their appearance.  Topics include paragraph characteristics, formatting tabs, lists, spell checker, headers, and footers.

Windows Operating Systems - You will learn how the Windows operating system allows you to manage files and folders on your computer, customize your PC to suit your individual preferences, and maintain it for optimum performance.  Although this class is based on Windows 7, the concepts & techniques covered also apply, in large measure, to Windows Vista and XP. 
Length of course is 8-weeks, one afternoon a week.
